The world’s best riders in the Motocross World Championship stopped over at Matterley Basin in Winchester, Hampshire over the weekend for the MXGP of Great Britain. This event is arguably the pinnacle of motocross in the UK. This circuit, with its natural valley features offered spectacular views and entertainment for fans. It was a solid weekend of racing for the Plews riders. Here is a breakdown of how it unfolded:
Charlie Heyman had a fantastic weekend racing in the EMX 250 class. In race 1 his start had him in the middle of the pack but he managed to work his way up to P9. With 4 laps to go it felt as though he had a flat tyre with all the missing spokes but he managed to still finish in a respectable P14. In race 2, Charlie had a mega start running in P2 off the start and battling with the likes on Francisco Garcia. Running at the top with the best in such a strong class Charlie finished in P5. Speaking about the atmosphere at the event, this is what Charlie has to say: ”Massive thanks to everyone around me and supporting me, the uk fans were on fire this weekend, I couldn’t even hear my own bike“. Charlie finished his race weekend in P8 Overall and was the highest placing Brit rider in EMX 250.

Austin Senior was another rider who had a successful racing weekend winning the MXE class. This was his third MXGP and second race win. After falling in the second race Austin said that it didn’t worry him and he got back onto his bike as soon as he could and just raced his race. He was asked about how this track was compared to others he had raced and this is what he had to say: “the track is way better, more jumpier than other tracks”. The young rider was fortunate enough to have his national anthem played while on the podium after a well deserved win.
Tristan Purdon raced in the main MXGP class over the weekend. While it may not have been the best weekend for him it is still quite an achievement to be banging bars with the best in the world. After a fall in race 1 and just not feeling the bike over the weekend Tristan was unable to start the second race due to injury. We look forward to seeing his out on the track again soon.
